Aggregated Data Dashboard
Process
ROLE - USER EXPERIENCE, USER INTERFACE, VISUAL DESIGNER
TOOLS - SKETCH -> FIGMA
PROJECT DURATION - 8 WEEKS
The Portal is a Gro-curated dashboard for users to explore and manipulate our data as they explore our product. It’s used it to showcase “Gro Curated Displays” as well as update the Gro Feed with the latest insights and publications.
Gro needed a homepage for free users that would incentivize them to upgrade to one of our higher-tier plans. The original homepage for the portal only featured a news feed - we wanted to add a central page navigator for free public analytics.
Research & Exploration
First, I explored new dashboard layouts of the current user flow by re-arranging information and designing new solutions for visual hierarchy. Consistency is key, so some small UI updates were necessary, including creating new components for the left-hand navigation bar, icons, buttons and subscription alerts.
Next, after getting the full requirements, I mocked up some homepage options.
Updates
I decided to simplify the site navigation for the free user, but add a prominent CTA to upgrade to the premium plan (with some information showing its improvements over the free plan).
We wanted to let the user know what to expect once upgrading to a premium or enterprise plan, without showing them that actual live data yet. Therefore, I designed in-situ upgrade “cards” within their dashboards (with a clear option to upgrade their plan in order to view the data).
As a result:
Due to the “Talk to our team” CTA, our sales team had more access to users who were looking to upgrade from a free account, but just didn’t know how to previously.
In the six months post-update, we had approximately 10% more premium and enterprise combined signups from this part of the website compared to the previous period.
